The main features of the fiber cable type PMC-400RGB-3-28/20-xxx (also known
as PMC-400RGB-3.5-NA011-3-XPC-xxx-P) include
Fiber
The fiber is a polarization-maintaning, single-mode Panda fiber,
defined by its NA and its cut-off wavelength. The nominal NA is 0.11 and
is specified by the fiber manufacturer. Additionally the effective numerical aperture
NAe2 is measured for each fiber batch by Schäfter + Kirchhoff. The fiber has an
effective numerical aperture
NAe2 of 0.068 and a
cut-off wavelength
λco of 400 nm.
Maximum wavelength is 680 nm. Besides the nominal cut-off wavelength
λco, Schäfter + Kirchhoff also offers measured data for the cut-off wavelength
for each individual fiber cable.
The fiber has a pure silica
core for long-term stable low attenuation and high transmission.
The RGB fiber is designed for broadband applications. However, at long wavelength the
fiber can be quite sensitive to disturbances, such as bending or stress. During
the manufacturing process of RGB fiber cables additional measures are taken to
guarantee a high performance even at high wavelengths. Additional tests are performed
to document that the fiber performance is high over the whole wavelength range.
Please note, that due to the large wavelength range, the values of the effective
numerical aperture NAe2 are noticeably different at the cut-off wavelength
and at the max. wavelength. Please refer to the NAe2 curve in the
Downloads section.
Fiber cable
The fiber cable has a
3 mm jacket in black with Kevlar strain-relief and a length of xx cm.
Fiber Connectors
The fiber cable is equipped with a fiber connector
of type FC APC
(8 deg polish, narrow key)
at the one end
and a fiber connector of type FC PC
(0 deg polish, narrow key)
at the other end.
All of the fiber connectors of type FC assembled by Schäfter + Kirchhoff have an alignment
index (key).
The narrow key (type "R") fiber connector has an alignment index (key) of 2 mm width.
